CRAFT: Chikankari is the fundamental art of white embroidery on white fabric that is believed to have descended from Persia and flourished under the Nawabs of Awadha, the now Lucknow. Chikan is supposed to be derived from the Persian word 'Chikeen' meaning embroidered fabric. The primitive white on white palette is now supplemented with various colours. The wide spectrum of 40 plus stitches used in chikankari provides dynamic texture variations on the fabric with mere stitch details.
